NEW FAR Clause Bans TikTok Under Federal Contracts

Effective from June 2, 2023, the U.S. government has imposed a prohibition on the use of TikTok in all its contracts. This ban has been enforced by the Department of Defense, the General Services Administration, and NASA.

The primary motivation behind this action is the enhancement of cybersecurity measures to protect Federal Information Technology.

Key highlights:

* This prohibition is a component of the legislative measure, "No TikTok on Government Devices Act."

* The enforcement mechanism is the newly incorporated contract clause, FAR 52.204-27.

* Compliance with this ban is mandatory for all subcontractors.

For contractors, this signifies the discontinuation of casual TikTok usage during work breaks. Prioritizing security over leisure is the new norm.
